Congratulations to senior Classics major Lain Wilson who will begin his pursuit of the Ph. D. at Princeton University next fall.
Congratulations junior Classics major Jacqueline DiBiasie who has won two grants for advanced work: an SSIR for Honors thesis research in Classics and a grant from the Archeological Institute of America for summer field work in Puglia, Italy.
Congratulations to sophomore Classics major Holly Ratliffe on winning the Washington and Lee /Oxford University Exchange competition. Holly will read Classics at University College, Oxford, for her junior year.
Congratulations to Prof. Rebecca Benefiel on winning the Archaeological Institute of America Fellowship for Mediterranean Research. Prof. Benefiel will continue her study of Pompeian inscriptions during her sabbatical leave next year.

Two new faculty joined the Classics Department in August:
Assistant Professor Dr. Scott Johnson (B.A. Vanderbuilt University, M.Phil, D.Phil. Keble College, Oxford) brings expertise and enthusiasm in a broad range of topics in the study of ancient languages and the ancient world with a particular passion for Greek Literature and the world of late antiquity.
Visiting Assistant Professor Dr. Bryce Walker (B.A. Swarthmore, Ph.D University of Pennsylvania) specializes in Latin Literature and will replace Dr. Miriam Carlisle during her sabbatical leave this year.
